Mission Statement
The Summit House program strives to break the multigenerational cycle of crime, poverty, and substance abuse by intervening in the lives of mothers who have committed nonviolent crimes and strengthening the bonds between those mothers and their children.
"Today, because of Summit House, I am a better parent, I have a wonderful job and I am building better relationships with my family and friends."
Philosophy
Summit House is a Therapeutic Community. The basic goal for women offenders and ultimately their children is to offer a lifestyle that includes drug abstinence, elimination of anti-social (criminal) behavior, development of employable skills, and the acquisition of positive attitudes, beliefs and behaviors which reflect honesty, respect, non-violence and self-reliance. In addition, Summit House strives to maximize healthy bonding between the mothers and children in the program.
